If you’re a fan of the picturesque town’s and villages of France and haven’t yet discovered the breathtaking region of Brittany now’s the time! Over the past 12 months I’ve managed to squeeze 3 cycle touring trips to this stunning area and i’ve well and truly fallen in love with the bars and creperie’s that line the town and villages along the way. Cycling has been the perfect way for me to explore Brittany’s best bits but whether you travel by foot, bike or car these spots are well worth a pit-stop! Coffee, crepes, beer or wine…you’ll find it all here!
PLENEUF-VAL-ANDRE
Located on the North coast of Brittany in between Saint-Briac and St.Malo Pleneuf-Val-Andre is a small fishing town with impressive cliffs and a couple of brilliant bars and restaurants with views of the harbour to enjoy your beer.
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : Le Zef Creperie
GURLESQUIN
Nothing more than 2 adjacent tabacs (bars) on a cobbled square and a supermarche Gurlesquin is probably not on most people’s radar but this was one of my favourite stops for a refreshing demi-bierre because quite simply I felt French drinking with the locals. Plus if you’re looking to camp theres a stunning reservoir close by!
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : Both Bars on the square are worth a stop!
LE FAOU
On the edge of the stunning (must-visit) Parc Naturel Regional D’Amorique and with a population of around 1,500 Le Faou is a charming commune that has an almost toy town appearance. The cute cobbled streets provide boulangerie’s, patisserie’s and of course authentic French restaurants with enough wine and beer to make you stay the night!
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : Les Halles will provide you with a filling meal and great vibes that will make you want to stay and drink wine with them all night!
QUIMPERLE
On my second cycle trip to France myself and my boyfriend accidentally stumbled across this gorgeous town and it we were so glad we did. Quimperle is set in a valley and it’s streets are lined with flowers and quaint buildings. Grab a demi-bierre and a pizza and watch life go by.
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : Pizzeria Dom Morice
BRIGNOGAN-PLAGES
One of my favourite stops so far Brignogan-Plages is only a short distance from Roscoff ferry port but feels like you are well and truly on holiday time. Cafe du Port has stunning views over the water and a continental feel to it – if the sun is shining you won’t want to leave again!
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : Cafe du Port for a excellent coffee or lunch time wine!
MORLAIX
One of my favourite cities to walk/ cycle /drive into in the World. Located right at the bottom of an estuary you reach Morlaix by driving along the river side and the pass under a tall, impressive bridge only to be taken to beautiful square full of restaurants and patisseries. Despite it’s un-city-like feeling Morlaix still has a tonne of amazing cafes, restaurants and bars.
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : La Dolce Vita for beer, beer, steak frites and beer!
LANDERNEAU
Nestled neatly at the mouth of the Elon River Landerneau is at the bottom of a very very long hill. The photogenic buildings sit proudly on its bank but it’s the back streets you want to venture. Landerneau is home to some fantastic atmospheric bars and restaurants you just have to head off the beaten track.
BEST FOOD/BEER STOP : Le Revel Matin for a bar full of character and your choice of saucisson to accompany your demi-bierre!
