Cascais Food and Drink Guide

The best restaurants and bars in Cascais, Portugal

Cascais, my home since 2020 and a beautiful location to eat and drink in Portugal so I wanted to share what I think are the best restaurants and bars in Cascais. Most people take a day trip from Lisbon, visiting the beaches and bougainvillaea but soon realise Cascais is the perfect place to spend a few days. Go get lost in the maze of calรงada paved streets and youโ€™ll discover a foodie heaven!

CASCAIS TRAVEL GUIDE

Where to eat and drink in Cascais

I know Iโ€™m biased but Cascais really is a fantastic foodie destination. The town has a huge variety of restaurants in a small area that it is impossible to get bored. These are my favourite areas to grab a bite and take a sip. I’m updating this Cascais Restaurant Guide frequently to keep you up to date with all the new spots to eat and drink in town.

Bairro Amarelo / Rua Amarela

First I want to mention Bairro Amarelo which is Cascaisโ€™ (better) version of Lisbon’s Pink Street. Bairro Amarelo (yellow district) is a car-free, restaurant-packed area and in my opinion the best area to eat out in Cascais. There is always a really buzzy atmosphere and the perfect outdoor dining environment. Many of the restaurants I have mentioned below are here. If youโ€™re planning on dining during the weekend or summer then itโ€™s advisable to book many of the restaurants ahead of time as they do get booked up.

Cascais Bairro Amarelo restaurant district

Casa da Guia

Just a short 20 minute walk next to the ocean will take you to the residential area of Guia where youโ€™ll also find Casa da Guia. This collection of shops and restaurants is a wonderful place to spend the afternoon. The location is really unique because you are right on the cliffs, as you can imagine the views are amazing!

The Paredรฃo

This 3km beach walk runs right from central Cascais all the way to Praia do Poรงa and reveals all types of wonders along the way. Prices can be a little higher than average for the type of food but Iโ€™ve had many great meals out here and the vibe and view is definitely worth it. I can be found in one of a number of these bars and restaurants most weekends enjoying a cold beer in the sun!

Paredรฃo Cascais

Mercado da Vila

One of the best produce markets Iโ€™ve visited in Portugal (Iโ€™ve been to a lot). Every Wednesday, Saturday (08:30 – 13:00) and Sunday (09:30-13:00) the mercado transforms into a fantastic farmers market with fruits, veggies, cheese, bread, flowers and more. In addition to the market, Mercado da vila hosts a number of fab restaurants (open all week) including the petisco (Portuguese tapas) restaurant – Pรกteo do Petisco and a marisco (seafood) restaurant – Marisco na Praรงa (also available in the marina) . For vegetarians (but not only) you can find LOCAL – Healthy Kitchen serving up fresh, tasty dishes. There are also several cafes where you can pick up freshly baked goods and coffee. New to the scene is Mommi, offering artisan baked goods. If you’re a cinnamon bun fan – don’t skip this! Pair with coffee from Fabrica who also have a stand here. This is one of my favourite places to hang out on a Sunday for a slow morning or browsing and nibbling.

Prawns in garlic, Cascais

Marina de Cascais

Cascais Marina went through a refurb in 2023 and is now rather glitzy . The marina now boasts a number of cafes, shops, a supermarket, bars and restaurants. Marinas are notoriously expensive and Cascais’ is no different. However, there are also a few long-standing cafes serving snacks and drinks at less inflated prices too. For brunch Kafeine is a great shout. Want great coffee? The go to The Coffee. If seafood is your thing then a trip to Marisco na Praรงa should be on your itinerary. Just out of the Marina next to the Cidadela you have Maria Pia which is an easy-breezy spot for lunch with a view.

Portugal Travel Planning Map

The best way to plan your Portugal itinerary is by having all of the options in one place. I’ve created a trip planning map for Portugal with hundreds of pins to help you plan your trip. Need trip inspiration or itinerary ideas? You’ll find everything you need on the map.

If you are overwhelmed by all the options and don’t have time to make an itinerary, I can do it for you.

Best Lunch + Dinner Restaurants in Cascais

I’m almost 6 years into living in Cascais. I’ve watched the town evolve, and restaurants come and go over the years since 2020. I’ll never get bored of dining here because the options are endless. Whether you want fresh seafood with a view of the ocean, a traditional plate of frango piri-piri, quality home-made pasta, or to fill up on a vegetarian feast, Cascais has it all. I’m constantly visiting new bars and restaurants alone and with friends so I continue to update this restaurant guide frequently. Cascais is a popular tourist destination, but it is home to thousands of locals too. Book restaurants in advance on weekends and every day during in summer season. Ready to take note of the best restaurants? Let’s go…

Hรญfen

Av. Dom Carlos I 48, 2750-310 Cascais

Images: Hรญfen

One of my absolute favourite restaurants in Cascais. Modern Portuguese food made from fresh and quality ingredients and the dishes are consistently good.  The restaurant has two levels and some outdoor seating. You can expect great dishes, great cocktails and good vibes. Itโ€™s located right next to Praia da Ribeira, with views across the bay. Popular with both locals and tourists. Book in advance for lunch/dinner.

Bodega Brava

Av. Valbom 9 9A, 2750-598 Cascais

Cascais has a new bar in town and it’s Spanish-themed. This tiny tapas bar is a welcome addition to the Cascais restaurant and social scene. Just a few minutes from the train station, the lively corner bar serves high quality, tasty tapas to share with friends. Try the chouriรงo picante com mel (spicy sausage with honey) and gambas com lima (prawns with lime). The cheese and jamon selection is also worth a nibble! Open 12:00 – 23:00.

Bodega Brava bar Cascais tapas bar

A Nova Estrela

Rua do Poรงo Novo 205 b, 2750-467 Cascais

A much-loved local restaurant serving Portuguese classics such as Bacalhau Assado, Alheira and choco frito.

A Leitaria

Largo da Assunรงรฃo nยบ17e18, 2750-298

My favourite snack bar and hang out spot for a cheap and cold beer and some salgados (salty snacks). Located in a small square next to the church. It basks in sunshine from lunchtime to early evening in the summer. Itโ€™s also a good spot for an early morning local breakfast. They serve their bifanas on bolo do caco and they are delish!

Melody

Rua do Poรงo Novo 195, 2750-079 Cascais

Typical tasca/ snack bar in the middle of the historical centre with all the classics, excellent grilled fish and the best desserts. This is as close to a Lisbon-style tasca as you’ll get in Cascais,

O Cantinho da Belinha

Av. Vasco da Gama 133, 2750-509

Tasca time! Belinha is a lovely backstreet tasca with small courtyard that does typical dishes and does them well. Can get booked up on the weekend.

Jardim dos Frangos

Alameda Combatentes da Grande Guerra 68, 2750-326

Juicy Portuguese chicken and chips loved by locals and tourists alike smack bang on the avenida. If they are full in the restaurant they also offer take-away for an excellent price. Cash only, multibanco next door.

A Antiguinha

R. Nova da Alfarrobeira 10A, 2750-642 Cascais

Another tiny tasca, hidden from plain sight. Breaks the ‘no photos of food on the menu’ rule but you’ll find some great Portuguese classics in a simple, no frills environment.

Guimas

R. Freitas Reis 24, 2750-357 Cascais

Brazilian / French bistro with cosy, friendly interior.

Cantinho do Avillez

R. da Palmeira 6A, 2750-133

Images : Cantinho do Avillez

One of 3 restaurants run by chef Josรฉ Avillez. Contemporary Portuguese cuisine that you wonโ€™t forget in a hurry. Mouthwatering dishes made with high quality ingredients and a lot of thought. A little bit splurge-y but not OTT.

Souldough Pizza

R. Nova da Alfarrobeira 5, 2750-444

Photos: Souldough Pizza

Newly opened in 2023 Souldough is a welcome addition to Cascais. Tucked around the corner from Bairro Amarelo this little pizza haven is the perfect setup for aperitivos with friends followed by delicious stonebaked pizza.

My pick: Ricotta and Pear Pizza

Pizzeria Il Siciliano

Rua do Poรงo Novo 138A, 2750-465

While we are on the pizza train, this is the best pizza restaurant in Cascais (according to me, who takes pizza very seriously). Traditionally made with tasty ingredients and super friendly staff. Eat in or better still take-away and eat on the beach with a couple of cold Peronis (or Sagres if youโ€™re staying loyal to Portugal).

Malacopa

R. Afonso Sanches 38, 2750-282

Margarita classica, Malacopa, Cascais best restaurants by Soi 55 Travel

Another one of my most-visited restaurants is Malacopa. Located in the heart of Bairro Amarelo and popular with locals and tourists alike. Expect tasty tacos, a fun vibe and the best tasting margaritas in Cascais. Book in advance for dinner/ weekends.

My pick: Margarita classica and taco de atum.

Chutnify

R. Afonso Sanches 53, 2750-282

Modern Indian. One of 3 restaurants in Portugal (the other two in Lisbon and Porto). Cool decor, outdoor seating and some truly tasty curries.

MOA Sushi

Tv. das Oliveiras 131, 2750-752

Cascais is not short on sushi restaurants and many of them are very good, but of all the ones Iโ€™ve tried MOA makes me the happiest. All the classics available plus some unique pieces to taste. Not central. Available on UberEats.

Confraria

R. Luรญs Xavier Palmeirim 14, 2750-412

A splurge-worthy sushi restaurant in the historical centre. Pretty patio with twinkly lights. Perfect for a romantic meal. Also available in Cais do Sodrรฉ in Lisbon.

SOYA Noodle Bar

R. Alexandre Herculano Loja B, 2750-444

If you fancy some asian classics like pad thai or ramen this is your place. Great value. Located in Bairro Amarelo and also available on UberEats in case youโ€™re having a night in the apartment.

Local – Healthy Kitchen

R. Padre Moisรฉs da Silva 13, 2750-642 Cascais

Images: Local Healthy Kitchen Instagram

The spot for soul-nourishing, healthy (but still tasty) food. Everything from huge, fresh poke bowls to noodles to braised tuna and seasonal veg. They also have lots of vegetarian options, gorgeous desserts and smoothies. Find the restaurant on the first floor of Mercado da Vila.

Gloria

Praia das Moitas, 2765-406 Estoril

Sun-kissed beachside restaurant on the paredรฃo, 20 mins walk or 2 train stops (Estoril) from Cascais. A regular hangout for me on the weekends after a morning on the beach at Praia da Poรงa.

Kappo

Av. Emรญdio Navarro 23 A, 2750-337

The hype is real. Tiny but mesmerising. Eat beautifully prepared dishes, face to face with the chefs that made them. This is high up on my restaurant wish list. Looking forward to updating you on this one soon!

Best Cafes, Coffee and Brunch in Cascais

If you’re a coffee or brunch lover you’ll be pleased to know Cascais has no shortage of restaurants serving great breakfast and speciality coffee. When I first arrived in Cascais in 202 there was only 1 speciality coffee shop, now I almost can’t keep up. Here is a list of the best cafes and coffee shops in Cascais.

Lusophonica

Rua do Farol de Santa Marta Museu do Farol de, 2750-800

Opens 10:00 – 18:00. The most quirky food and drink experience in Cascais? I think so!  Lusophonica is a small cafe located at the bottom of Santa Marta lighthouse, next to the most famous view in town. But it isnโ€™t just the location and excellent specialty coffee that makes it stand out; itโ€™s the tiny radio station it hosts too. Grab a coffee (or beer), pull up a chair under the palms, and enjoy the seemingly always perfect playlist. I really canโ€™t recommend this spot enough, Iโ€™m genuinely here most weekends.

Milkees/Gleba

R. Josรฉ Carvalho Araรบjo 262 Loja A, 2750-396

Opens 08:30. Arguably the best specialty coffee and bakery in Cascais. A little out of town but worth it if youโ€™re a coffee snob and want a break from the usual espresso at the typical cafes. In my opinion the breakfast menu isnโ€™t anything particularly special but it does have all the classic egg dishes. However, the bread, cakes and cookies are epic – donโ€™t leave without picking up a loaf!

Euphoria

R. Afonso Sanches 12, 2750-282

Opens 08:00. Amazing speciality coffee shop and where you’ll find me several mornings a week! It only opened in 2023 but has quickly turned into my favourite place to grab a coffee in Cascais. They have all the usual coffee suspects and they make everything very well. If you’re geeky about coffee these guys know their beans. Fantastic brunch menu also available, and don’t leave without trying one of the macaroons. Super busy in summer at brunch hour. In 2025 Euphoria opened their second cafe with bakery in Cascais, located close to the train station.

Fรกbrica

Av. Valbom 26B, 2750-355

Opens 08:30. A chain of specialty coffee shops that can also be found in Lisbon and Porto. Great coffee and friendly staff. Right in the centre and close to the beach. One of my frequent haunts.

Manteigaria

Av. Valbom 28, 2750-508 Cascais

Manteigaria, in Cascais – best addition to the 2025 food scene. The most famous and best pastรฉis de nata producer (Pastรฉis de Bรฉlem aside) in Portugal. It is currently being renovated (June 2025) and expected to open imminently. Located opposite the train station. Manteigaria has several outlets in both Lisboa and Porto.

Aloma

Praรงa 5 de Outubro 75, 2750-320

In 2025 Cascais earned it’s first ALOMA (another nata shop we didn’t know we needed). Come for the natas sure, but stay for the sunny seats in the historical square. One of the few coffee places that gets sun in the morning. They serve up all the Portuguese favourites like tosta mista and pรฃo de Deus. Not speciality coffee but a decent Portuguese style coffee at good prices.

Cafรฉ Joyeux Cascais

Travessa de Santa Catarina , Nยบ 3 Cascais, 2750-348 Portugal

A cafรฉ with a cause. Helping young people with developmental or intellectual disabilities gain meaningful work. The cafe itself is centrally located, next to the sea. Once you spot the bright yellow building you can’t help but smile. Born in France, but with cafes all over the world.

Kafeine

Marina de Cascais 42, 2750-800

Cool brunch place in the marina. Not speciality coffee but they have plenty of tasty breakfast and brunch options, and a few cocktails too! Small space and busy on the weekends.

The Coffee

Tv. Poรงo Novo 10, 2750-282 Cascais

Brazilian-owned, Japanese concept coffee chain in Portugal. Minimalistic but with some good iced coffee drinks to choose form such as iced matcha and iced Tonka coffee. There are two locations, historical center and the marina. The Marina shop is better for sitting in but the town shop has zero atmosphere so best for take-away. Both are comfortable with laptops if you’re looking for somewhere to work, but wifi isn’t great.

Best Ice-cream and Aรงai in Cascais

Santini

Alameda Combatentes da Grande Guerra 100, 2750-326

Santini is a local institution and with and interesting story. First sold in 1949 on the beach by Italian Attilio Santini. โ€œThe Best Ice cream in the worldโ€? Maybe not the world, but it is very very good and it’s definitely the best in Cascais. Lots of flavours made from natural ingredients. Chocolate and hazelnut is a personal favourite, but the fruit ones are also exceptional. On weekends and sunny afternoons there is usually a long queue but service is quick.

Oakberry

Av. Valbom 5b, 2750-427

Popular chain, and my favourite Aรงai in Cascais.

Where to drink in Cascais

A run down of all my favourite spots to enjoy and afternoon or evening drink in Cascais.

Best Bars in Cascais

I’m no stranger to the bar scene in Cascais. One of my favourite activities while getting to know Cascais over the last 5 years is bar-hopping with friends. Just like restaurants, Cascais has no shortage of places to drink. Whatever your tipple, Cascais has a place to drink it. Here is a list of the best bars in Cascais.

Emma

R. Frederico Arouca, 2750-642

I love the buzz of this place and I have spent many afternoons hanging out in the sunshine here. Located right on Praia do Conceiรงรฃo. There are only a few tables outside but just find an empty spot on the wall and the staff will come and take your order. All the usual suspects drink wise. They also do some great entradas and dishes to enjoy outside or in the restaurant itself. Emma sometimes has live music on the weekend too!

Holy Wine

R. Afonso Sanches 21A, 2750-282 Cascais

Funky natural wine bar hidden down a side street. Small, intimate setting and offers small delicious plates. Great place to enjoy a glass before dinner. They often run small events like pairings and special tastings.

THE THE

Alameda Combatentes da Grande Guerra 5, 2750-474 Cascais

A summer afternoon/ sunset hangout at Boca do Inferno, a 20 minute walk from the centre of Cascais. Half beach shack half snack bar. The afternoon sun here is glorious and its the perfect place to sink a few spritz or GnT’s. They also have some snacks such as toasties and salads.

The Beach Club

Alameda Duquesa de Palmela 29a, 2750-642

Another beachside bar just a short walk from Emma is this chilled out spot. It’s a Spanish run bar so you can enjoy your drink with a few tapas dishes too!

House of Wonders

R. da Misericรณrdia 53, 2750-642

Probably better known for the healthy and vegan food they offer but for me this place is all about enjoying a glass of wine on the pretty patio or roof top.

The Tasting Room

R. Frederico Arouca 293, 2750-427

In to wine? The tasting room has one of the biggest wine lists in Cascais. They also offer some delicious petiscos. My pick is usually the peixinhos da horta and a glass of antรฃo vaz.

Tamariz Beach Club

Av. Marginal 7669, Estoril

Estoril (two stops on the train from Cascais or 20 minute walk).Open all day but this place is definitely more of a late night hang out. Attracts a younger crowd of locals and foreigners on the weekends. It’s the closest youโ€™ll get to a club (apart from Solo) in Cascais. Itโ€™s right on the beach so great for afternoon cocktails.

Despite living here Iโ€™m finding new places to eat and drink popping up all the time. Iโ€™ll keep adding as I go so donโ€™t forget to sign up to the mailing list so you donโ€™t miss them.

Tastes & Traditions of Lisbon Food Tour

Wine Tasting in Cascais

For a large, excellent list of wines then The Tasting Room is the spot. If you’d like to learn more about Portuguese wines then check if Vida Vinho has an event while you’re in town.

Clubs in Cascais

If you’re wanting a proper club experience Cascais isn’t going to float your boat. Instead go into Lisbon and try late-night favourite LUX.

If you’re in Cascais ‘after-hours’ and want a dance you can head to SOLO. It is basically a basement, but it does stay open until 6am on the weekends. The other option is Oficina das Artes, slightly less dark and dingy. It’s not in the centre so you’ll need to book an Uber.

Food Tours in Lisbon

If you’re teaming your Cascais trip with Lisbon definitely try one of Devour’s food and experience tours in Lisbon.

Best Restaurants near Cascais

Cascais is at the end of the Linha de Cascais train line running from Lisbon. Along this line you’ll find lots of towns worth a stop for many reasons, great eats and drinks being two of them. Check out Carcavelos which has a fantastic beach and great vibes. Head west of Cascais (by car) and you’ll reach the windswept beach of Guincho and the wild Sintra coast, full of amazing restaurants close to the sea. Here are the best restaurants near Cascais.

Traditional food in a restaurant right on the cliff close to but not on Guincho. Great views, lovely spot in summer!

O Crรดa | Praia Grande

Av. Alfredo Coelho 24, 2705-328 Colares

This is a little bit of a local gem and one of my go-to restaurants for clams in the Lisbon area. I escape here a few times a year when I want to leave Cascais behind for a few hours. It’s one of my favourite restaurants in Portugal to eat Amรชijoas ร  Bulhรฃo Pato (clams).

รgua e Sal | Azenhas do Mar

Extraordinary fish and seafood in the picture perfect village of Azenhas do Mar.

Esplanada Duna Mar | Praia do Magoito

Seafood restaurant but come here for the bar overlooking the beach.

Ponta do Sal | Praia do Sรฃo Pedro do Estoril

Cafe/lunch spot with beach vibes.

Jayโ€™s Brunch Cafe | Parede

Popular brunch spot! A long list of sweet and savoury options.

Paco Bigotes | Estoril

Casa da Praia | Carcavelos

My favourite beach bar in Carcavelos for a drink and sunset. Busy, great music and plenty of drink options. Right on the sand.
